Olympic Dance

Learning Through Dance

Whole Class Thinking

This sample shows...
  • We are dancing with Room 20 telling the story of the Olympics.
  • We are showing the ancient and modern Olympics
  • The Greek battle, opening ceremony, different sports, winning on the podium and the rings at the end.
  • We are dancing on stage and keeping to the beat.
  • The birth of the modern Olympics.
  • A dance about the Greeks inventing the Olympics.

By doing this dance we learnt about...
  • The elements of dance and the ancient and modern Olympics.
  • The Greeks invented the Olympics.
  • We learnt about timing, using space and relationships to other things.
  • We learnt about the elements of drama to help us with our dance.  FARTS is Focus, Action, Role, Time, Space
  • The elements of dance are BARTS-E = Body Awareness, Relationships, Timing, Space and Energy.
  • We learnt about using power and expression.
  • We learnt to work together to get the perfect timing.
  • We learnt to listen to the beat of the music and keep in time with it.
  • Using the idea of sports movement to make a dance.

Some things we did well include...
  • The battle at the beginning
  • I did a really good jump and turn.
  • We did the punching in the air well together.
  • We showed good expression on our faces.
  • The rings looked good the way the different colours came together at the end.
  • We did the slow motion movement well.
  • Cooperating together, listening to the music and being in time.
  • In the Eye of the Tiger part we had really good timing.

Some things we can improve on include...
  • Being in time with the music better when we are jogging and boxing.
  • The final Olympic rings and stopping at the same time.
  • We could use the space better.
  • Being all in perfect time together.
  • We need to be more focused and working better together.
  • Better freeze fames at the beginning.
  • Sometime we went too fast – slow down and be on time at the end.
  • Doing a shocked face at the end of the battle.
  • Better freeze frames – really really still like a statue.
  • I can improve on doing the circle with my friends.
  • No sword noises in the battle please boys!

Thinking About camp by Ellie

The activity I enjoyed the most at camp was… the water slide

I enjoyed this because..I never went down a slide that was very long before.  This water slide was 100 meters long! I also enjoyed it because it was very fast.

Something that was a challenge for me was…the mountain bike

This was hard because…we had to go over a lot of rocks and it was bumpy and I almost fell off because I lost my balance.

Poem by Ellie

When I was 4
I like
jelly snakes
chocolate shakes
lemonade
and
strawberry cakes

When I was four
I was so poor
I went to a store
that was next door
they said hello
little fellow
what do you want?

I said
can I please have
jelly snakes
chocolate shakes
lemonade and strawberry cake?
PLEASE

  • This sample shows...My published poem.
  • I have been learning to...try and make a poem that has words that rhyme example. snakes, shakes, cakes
  • One thing I think that I did well was...working with Gracie to write my poem.
  • One thing I think I can improve on is...I'd like to make some longer poems.
